The England team may have struggled in South Africa depite the valiant efforts of the Bristol members of the team but the former England A, now known as England Saxons (for an excellent reason I'm sure and nothing to do with the second string New Zealand team have the fine Maori name attached), put in a stirling performance to win the Churchill Cup.  At least that's one competition the England Rugby team will win in World Cup year.

Wasps wings Paul Sackey and Tom Voyce scored in each half to put the Saxons ahead but the Maori struck back via Jason Kawau to edge to a one-point lead. With the match so poised Leicester back row Tom Croft outpaced the Maori defence to cross in the corner with seven minutes to go for the match-winning try of a 17 - 13 win.
