T's End of Season Poll, Part 2 of 3

Hate figure?
By T June 6 2007
With the Home Nations' tours of the Southern Hemisphere over, the Churchill Cup recovered, we now enter the players' rest period of, allegedly, 11 weeks (though TC has to wait another week). How better to amuse ourselves than with the second installment of the End-of-Season Poll?

 PART II: CLUBS

1. BEST PERFORMANCE BY A SARACENS TEAM: After all the super games we've been lucky to see it's the bonus point away win against Irish that stands out as best performance, I can't really  complain too much about the result, nor can I make any mildly humorous quips so I'll move on...

 Winner          London Irish (Away)

2nd                 Gloucester (Home)

3rd                    Bath (Home)

2. WORST PERFORMANCE BY A SARACENS TEAM:  One smug voter pointed out that he predicted the correct score and shape of the game at home to Worcester, and realised he was right 5 minutes after half time only to have to sit through his prediction as it unfolded around him.  As for that Semi all 5,000 mildly interested supporters watched as Saracens played Russian roulette and managed to shoot themselves in the head 4 times even though there was only one bullet in the chamber.

The last day of the season against Worc, I like to think we were letting the little guy win in some Hollywood style ending, as it eases the pain... in reality "we didn't get off the bus" and were deservedly beaten in the most frustrating game to watch I think I've ever seen.  We cheered ourselves up by telling ourselves that it was ok as we had avoided Leicester in the Semis and a trip to Kingsholm would be the easier draw...

Winner           Gloucester (SF Play offs)

2nd                   Worcester (Away)

3rd                   Worcester (Home) & Bath (SF Challenge Cup)

3. FAVOURITE CLUB TO VISIT FOR AN AWAY GAME:  And who says going to a football stadium to watch rugby is a bad thing?  Not you that's for sure!  A trip down the M4 to Reading being the highlight of this year's travelling hordes. Although I guess a win helps!

Winner           London Irish

2nd                   Northampton, Worcester & Gloucester

3rd                   Bristol, Parma, Narbonne &, Quins,

4. LEAST FAVOURITE CLUB TO VISIT FOR AN AWAY GAME:  Is it any wonder that year after year people are praying for a family christening to go to rather than a trip to Welford Road when our record reads played 100, won 0, drawn 1, lost 99??     Trips to Wasps are fraught for the very same reason while Edgeley park is a nightmare to get to, and quite frankly a bit of a hole... (starts throwing stones at  his own glass house)

Winner           Leicester

2nd                   Wasps & Sale

3rd                   Bath, Bristol, Quins & Gloucester

5. BEST OPPOSITION FANS:  Personally don't see it myself ... nice bunch that they are, they should definitely lose points for rubbish songs and proclaiming themselves the best fans in the league, which is a bit like giving yourself your own nickname in the playground.   Irish like a drink and bang drums, so are a bit like the Fezboys - really that's just a vote for ourselves.  While Northampton probably just squeeze in there as they all work in shoe factories during the week and we feel a little sorry for them this year.

Winners        Worcester

2nd                   Irish

3rd                   Northampton

6. WORST OPPOSITION FANS: Yet another bit of silverware as Leicester finish with the cup on this one. Considering they win all the time they are "the most miserable bunch of supporters you could meet". Other traits include graciousness in defeat such as writing letters to the ERC claiming Tom French was illegible for the final... I mean it's not like Leicester have won the Heineken cup in dubious circumstances now is it? (Joke shamelessly stolen from The Bard)

Quins obviously there as one of their lot suggested Saracens were a bit "blue collar" so we've tarred them all with the same brush, which we no doubt did very efficiently with our tradesman like hands.

Nice to see Worc here as well!

Winners        Leicester

2nd                   Quins & Gloucester

3rd                   Bath & Worcester

7. FAVOURITE OTHER GP TEAM (NON-SARACENS): Yay! One I agree with.  There is no one but Saracens... unless of course they are playing in Europe when it is then fine to cheer on anyone playing against O'Gara and Marshall.

Winner           No one

2nd                   Northampton

3rd                   Worc & Irish

8. LEAST FAVOURITE TEAM: We're only jealous of Leicester and their success... although we don't really like the cheating, the gamesmanship, Martin Johnson, Harry Ellis, the supporters, the ground, the bar.  We're only jealous of Wasps and their success... although we don't really like the way they have a habit of winning in the last minute, that rubbish Allez Wasps chant that they get confused with ‘Oggie Oggie', Lawrence Dallaglio, the supporters, ground and bar.  We're only jealous of Quins and their...er, um... nice catering?!

Winner           Leicester

2nd                 Wasps

3rd                  Quins

9. BEST BAR: Well you're going to have to find a new one next year, as trips to Parma and Northampton won't be on the cards.  New boys Druids in Watford come in third as the best place to drink before a home game, with people surprisingly turning down the opportunity to drink at the ground. [Ho! Ho! - Ed]

Winner           Northampton

2nd                 Parma

3rd                  Druids Watford

10. WORST BAR: I asked when compiling votes if there were many worse places to drink than in a car park in a cold tent, you voted in your numbers and clearly said... "no there isn't".  Yet again the shambles of drinking at Saracens comes out top, although at least now the money spent in the village goes to the amateur club, so even if you're having a pint in a cold tent you can be warm in the knowledge that the money is going towards having the amateurs' kit washed.  Worcester also comes out high in the poll in that they ran out of booze and that the queues were horrendous.  Leicester, Wasps and Twickers' bars are obviously tarnished by association.

Winner           Saracens

2nd                   Worcester

3rd                   Leicester, Wasps & Twickenham

11. BEST 'SOLIDS': Is this yet again another case of Druids changing the landscape of Rugby?  Or just a case that stadium food on the whole is crap?!  Nados, the Hog roast and Fish and Chip van all got points at Saracens while one voter suggested the "bacon sandwich at Glouc was superb" and Bristol pasties got the thumbs up again.

Winner           None, I go to the pub instead

2nd                   Gloucester, Bristol & Saracens

3rd                   Quins & Narbonne

12. WORST 'SOLIDS': I can only assume that being 2nd best and worst food at Saracens that we have a difference in taste or it's the difference between in and out the ground... processed hot dog cooked under a 100watt light bulb and overpriced chips all get the thumbs down as does Twickers' "overpriced rubbish", two other football stadiums also come in the top 5 places, Rugby is clearly rubbish in a football stadium.

Winner           Saracens

2nd                   Twickenham

3rd                   Sale, Irish & Gloucester
