The long-awaited final instalment of t'poll
By T July 3 2007
There are a number of poll questions that defy ready classification. Just as well that T provided a 'miscellaneous' section for our end-of-season poll. Here is a summary of the disparate matters covered in that section. Only two months (and a bit) to go until the new season ...

PART III: MISCELLANEOUS

1. BEST SARRIES RUGBY MOMENT OF THE SEASON: The Jackson penalty was the thing that summed up the season for many "I started to believe" was just one comment that sounds like it could have come from Miracle on 34th Street; while the fallout from that game had many of you giggling away...  Unsurprisingly DarrahGirl says her highlight was ‘Darrah rejoining the club', while several of you plumped for certain tries scored by Hill, Chesney, TC and Farrell.  Whatever it was, we've had loads to choose form this year...

Winner                  Jackson's last minute conversion Vs Gloucester at home

2nd                          Dean Ryan's face/ rant after last minute win

3rd                           Reaching the playoffs

2. WORST SARRIES RUGBY MOMENT OF THE SEASON: Several low points, mostly coming in the last few weeks of the season.   Our expectations at the start of the season were obviously so low that many people booked holiday the same time as the playoffs and then found out via mobile phone (or bloke in the pub) that Gloucester had thrashed us...; the interception try against Bath which still keeps me awake at night; the Worc defeats were hard to take, given we knew what was going to happen but just couldn't stop it; and losing at Wasps was as painful as it always is, against them.

Joint Winners      Being on holiday and finding out  that Sarries had  shipped 50 to Glos,   & Bath's interception try in the Semi Final of the CC

2nd                          Losing to Worcester home and away

3rd                           Last minute loss to Wasps

3. FUNNIEST RUGBY MOMENT OF THE SEASON: Perhaps this explains Leicester being so miserable?  The fact that when your winning nobody laughs or finds anything funny, I guess that's why they all call it the business end of the table?

Winner                  Don't remember anything funny

2nd                          Cencus absolutely smashing Robbie Russell, picking him up and walking him backwards from a short drop out.

3rd                           Sarrie the Camel doing something but I can't remember what

4. BEST REFEREE: A good year for the whistle blowers as the International panel come out on top taking exactly the same amount of votes as each other... The fact that there were votes for most of the panel show how far we have come since professional referees were introduced.

Winner                  Ash Rowden, Chris White, Tony Spreadbury & Wayne Barnes

2nd                          Martin Fox & Dave Pearson

3rd                           None

5. WORST REFEREE: You're still bitter about the Semi Final aren't you?!

I thought Owens had a decent game. Ok, he got the Dickens non-try wrong.  My wife always said we had an ugly team when compared to others, so maybe if we'd have put Seymour on a little earlier he might have favoured us a little more.  A couple of people voted for Chris White, with one voter suggesting that "it's not that he's a bad referee, it's that he never uses his cards" which, while a bit of a boring quote, it does set up a rather lame joke about him not giving out Christmas cards - I'll insert it here as soon as I've thought of it.

Winner                  Nigel Owens

2nd                           Sean Davey

3rd                           Chris White

6. BEST MEDIA PERFORMANCE BY A RUGBY CELEBRITY OR BROADCASTER:  Will Greenwood has come straight into the rugby club and offers a refreshing change to the format, giving someone intelligent for Miles Harrison to converse with; the fact you can see him rolling his eyes when Stuart Barnes speaks makes him worthy of winning this poll and probably a knighthood.  Brian Moore takes second spot for his no-nonsense opinions and the fact that he thinks Eddie Butler is an idiot, while TC & Kyran share 3rd place, getting votes for being cheeky and wearing sparkly clothes respectively.

Winner                  Will Greenwood

2nd                          Brian Moore

3rd                           TC & Kyran Bracken

7. WORST MEDIA PERFORMANCE BY A RUGBY CELEBRITY OR BROADCASTER: The fact Will Greenwood played for both Leicester and Quins, yet is still the most popular member of Sky's coverage of the Premiership, just shows how little is thought of the other smug little munchkins. The mystic meg qualities of Paul Ackford get him into 2nd place, "Saracens will be relegated this season", while Jerry Guscott and his mauling of Andy Farrell after the Ireland game gets a 3rd place finish

Winner                  Stuart Barnes

2nd                          Dewi Morris & Paul Ackford

3rd                           Jerry Guscott

8. BEST CONTRIBUTION TO THESARACENS.COM MESSAGE BOARD: Not one bloody vote, not one... I've been wasting my company's time on the forums for years now and not even a sniff of a vote for me. Instead, a self confessed ‘Loud Ginger bird from Stevenage' turns up at the beginning of the season with her poor spelling and her love of all things Seymour and strolls away with the award...  special mention also goes to Woodford Dave, who was described by one of his peers as "ironical parody of Alf Garnett in a neo-modern rugby context" (which I didn't really understand but thought it funny anyway).  Just missing out on the play offs was Samui, Bboonie, TT and Rupes, that said ‘Large's Mobile' clocked up more votes than you all, so best not get too cocky!

Winner                  Kat

2nd                          Everyone

3rd                           Large

RE the bits about media contribution, the poll was conducted before Tony Diprose's commentary on the Saxons games. IMHO he may have scored positively.

Or should that read 'He JUST may have scored positively'? (Sm13)
