The main purpose of ERE is to provide a medium through which individuals share their views about anything and everything. Some of those views may be mildly irritating to some or downright repulsive to others but, providing they are not illegal or attract an "ist" suffix, I'm happy to let everyone have their say. For example I've got no doubts that there are as many people nodding as shaking heads as they read some of Bod's most extreme comments. Personally I do a bit of both. He even makes me laugh at times (and then I come to my senses and start shaking my head).

Most of us talk from a position of having some or no knowledge about a subject in question but we don't let either stance get in the way of having a good natter. Why should we. I've talked utter rubbish about many things for most of my life and have no intention of stopping now, I'm sure many of you are the same. It's amazing how many people will believe what you are saying if you talk with enough conviction!

I love sport, as do most of you, and it continues to reflect life when it demonstrates how ridiculous people can be. Earlier this summer Sepp Blatter talked utter rubbish when he harped on about footballers being slaves to football clubs despite having signed a contract that they expect their employers to honour and drug cheat, Dwain Chambers, believed that the courts should have allowed him to run in Beijing despite the fact that he knew he'd done wrong.

The Olympics are exciting for some and mind-numbingly boring to others. Personally I like watching sports that I wouldn't normally get to see but I found the concept of spending some $50 million to open a large fete in a country where so many millions live in poverty obscene. There is talk that London wants to match the Beijing opening ceremony, help! I'd like us to go the completely opposite way and just have a ribbon with an outsize pair of scissors as that feels so much more British.
