Controversial drop of the Canadian GP
By BMW Sauber F1 Team October 8 2008
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has published its revised version of the 2009 Formula One race calendar. One of the most important changes is the omission of the Canadian Grand Prix, at which Robert Kubica sealed the first race victory for the BMW Sauber F1 Team this year. Nick Heidfeld finished second to complete a sensational result in Montreal.
After losing the US Grand Prix in 2007, this sees motorsport's elite class bid farewell for now to North America. The Canadian Grand Prix was held in Montreal for the first time in 1978.

The decision of the FIA means that the 2009 race calendar comprises 18 races, as it does this year. The season gets underway on 29th March with the Australian Grand Prix and closes on 15th November in the Arabian desert emirate of Abu Dhabhi, which will host a Formula One race for the first time next year.
