Second fifteen game is relief from England's woes
Good second fifteen game provides relief from England’s woes. A last minute phone call to friends up the valley secured a fixture for Ilkley’s second fifteen against Wharfedale’s Development fifteen. After Moortown and Huddersfield had agreed to play then called off Wharfedale and their young stars of the future plus one or two of their senior squad rose to the challenge.
Ilkley lead bitten off by Crocs in last ten,
Dalesmen fall to hands of Crocs in last ten minutes of a game that they could, and probably should, have won. After a Crocs conversion went in off they were chasing a single point deficit and conceded with the last play of an error strewn match. Ilkley should take heart from this performance.Top of the table Crocs march on.
Dalesmen can't find the scoring way
Having established a single point lead up to a minute from half time the Dalesmen fail to stop Gateshead's rampant and dynamic running backs and once again return with nothing.
Another half time lead goes begging
Dalesmen look good for half time lead, but succumb to slick backs play out of defence in second half. 13 -10 adavantage is overhauled early on and then Morpeth run riot.
Dalesmen hang on to earn first victory in North 2
Dalesmen break through with first league win at Durham City. Shanks edged them ahead with 2 penalties. Cudworth adds a precious try. Then Smith unleashes a sizzler from 60 metres to secure the lead at half time 16 - 8. Durham pull back to within a point before Shanks adds another goal and Smith gets his brace as he powers through. Ilkley supporters have hearts in their mouths for a final nerve jangling 15 minutes with their line under siege. Still, the monkey is off their backs and the confidence of old should now resurface.
Poor second half compounds woes
Sandal returned to Stacks Field with the season's opener fresh in the memory. A try within two minutes was conceded, but at half time the Dalesmen had a way back. The second half saw injuries and slack outfield play take their toll and five tries were leaked. Final score 38 - 9. The EDF Trophy is now off the agenda for season 2008-9. Let's concentrate on getting the league results that are so far eluding us.
First half lead slips away again
Dalesmen slug out a first half against the elements to secure a well-deserved 6 -3 lead at the interval. Basic errors cost them two tries from which they never recovered and, in the end, they conceded four tries to one to lose at Aspatria 31 - 17.
Dalesmen fall short, but not far short
Dalesmen fail to hold on to first half lead as wind, rain and a couple of errors allow Billingham to show their class. Another Dalesmen display in the "nearly there" category.
Dalesmen earn first North 2 league point .
Dalesmen earn first league point as 12 - 0 first half lead slips away. Second half wind against helps Cumbrians pull back and overhaul brave Ilkley only for one of their own, Peter Shanks, to level matters. A great game to complement the perfect conditions. They are at least off the bottom.
Dalesmen squeezed out in final quarter
Dalesmen go behind in first minute but gather themsleves to go into the lead with tries from Botha and Vincent. Driffield hit back to level scores at half time. Two tries in the last quarter secure a hard fought victory for the visitors. Ilkley 12 Driffield 27 is the final score.
