Some on the message boards are making comments about this weekend's gate figure.
I thought it would be good to look at the top 3 gates over the last three seasons. I have only gone back 3 seasons because that is what the information i have.
Over this period the biggest three gates have been against Pirates, Chiefs and the on loan premiership side.
| 2005/6 | |
| Pirates | 5672 |
| Quins | 5551 |
| Chiefs | 4873 |
| 2006/7 | |
| Pirates | 5981 |
| Chiefs | 5015 |
| Leeds | 4271 |
| 2007/8 | |
| Pirates | 6381 |
| Northampton | 6271 |
| Chiefs | 5751 |
From the above figures and the fact there are warm up matches between Plymouth and Exeter schools I would estimate that the attendance will just creep over the 6,000 mark.
To be played on the top pitch at the same time as the main event. It is a shame as this is likely to be an open game. Park yet to win in the Canterbury Shield they sit at the bottom of the table.
Unfortunately the Website for the CS seems to be down so I can give very little information about which matches and by how many they lost by.
The two sides have met 4 times over the last three years with Warriors winning all 4. Only once has Park travelled to Brickfields and that was in January this year when Warriors won 39 -20.
The Warriors were faced with very physical opponents in the form of Rosslyn park whoes average age was in the late 20s. The biggest different in age was even more in the front rows with Warriors at 18, 18 & 19 and Park in their mid thirties!
With the tactics employed by the visitors Warriors had to change their game plan plying more ruck ball than maul. Wihan Neethling had not made the trip to Polson Bridge and came into the line with his experience to help the Warriors and picking up a try for himself.
Jake scored his first of three from out wide on the 22 and his second off the back of a driving maul.
With Karl Mason committed to a combined services match the following day his was limited to only 40 minutes of play and meant the scrums went uncontested at half time.
The last 20 minutes saw the teams going in level and the pace and fitness of the younger Warriors side really came to the for to win the game.
Wihan's try came from a move that started on the Warriors own 10 metre line through captain Ross Allen before Darren Ritchie made a break passing to the full back on the 22 for him to run the ball in.
With Steve Johns moving into the centre and Darren out to the wing which gave Darren a bit more space and was unlucky not to score a single try.
Other tries were scored by Jamie Tripconey, and Matt Newman
Selections are still to be announced and will for some depend who has been selected for the Albion squad who take on Chiefs. Wihan may be in the Warriors side as he was the last time the teams met. If he does will he take the kicking duties or will that stay with the alllbion sponsored player Mark Lee.
The Ladies side played a blinder last weekend when they controlled the game and ran in 5 tries against Old Albanian Saints 31 - 5.
With new players joining by the week, as the song goes, things can only get better.
All positions now have competition for them so no place is secure, a great situation to be in.
This Sunday the ladies travel to Southampton to face Trojans and will be looking for a second win.
PALRFC are currently shown 5th in the league but my calculations show that when their bonus point is added for the 5 tries they scored they should be 3rd. This would move them above this weekend's opponents who are the only other side to pickup 2 bonus points from 2 games.
The Plymouth Albion girls sides play at under 15 and under 18 levels in a newly formed Western Counties, West League and last week the Under 15 side kept a clean sheet when the beat Exeter Saracens 32 - 0 and Cullompton 40 - 0.
Under 18s did not have such good fortunes as they went down to Exeter 0 - 55.
This Sunday both teams travel to Newquay to take on Liskard and Newquay.
After Sian Hobday and Kim Barber have been named in the Devon side at under 18 level Albion now have 5 players in the under 15 level after Harriet Inglis, Louise Gardner, Courtney Gill, Tandie Wallace Sims and Kezia Lee were all selected.
