"SENIOR WAS BRILLIANT"
vs Hull FC- Friday 6th June 2008.
Super League Round 16
Headingley Carnegie, Leeds
That was a weird old game Brian?
I thought it was exciting. Hull were very good by getting up to 18-0 but we were putting pressure on them which they withstood really well.
We got some repeat sets and they were clever in slowing the play and took their time in breaks, trying to make us override but at half time we were confident that we could get back in the game and it was a good effort by the players.
How is it to coach a team that doesn't know when they are beaten?
It's good experience to be behind. 18-0 down and 18-4 at half time but it was a good effort in sticking to what you believe in and there was no hesitation by anyone.
This showed as the score was 34-4 in our favour, in the second half.
When you score a try like Scott Donald's, it can be a lift for ANY team?
It was remarkable. It's the joy of sport. I think even Hull supporters would have taken their hats off to that. It was a great moment and an unbelievable try.
Can Hull still make the play offs?
Hull are on the rise and will get better and better but they had a few injuries tonight. It was a really good effort by them throughout the game and their tactics and they played was good.
There's every chance of them making the play offs if they get their troops in place. It's a funny old game and they are gaining in confidence as you could see tonight.
Good luck to them as they have a lot to look forward to, especially in the Challenge Cup.
Luke Burgess made a positive impact when brought on?
Burgess and Scruton were paired up and they did a good job for us. Luke came on to make a big impact and he had to step up because we couldn't play Jamie Peacock due to the stitches put in his elbow.
He had a phenomenal game last week and wasn't rested today, he just couldn't play because of the stitches.
Are you happy with Jamie Jones-Buchanan's come back?
Yes, I'm really glad to have him back. He enjoyed himself and I think he made the first five tackles out there, chasing everything and getting stuck in.
I thought Keith Senior was the outstanding player though. He was brilliant tonight and is having a big year. It's good for England for their World Cup hopes as he is playing really well for us.
So he hasn't retired from international rugby then?
Oh, I don't know. You will have to ask him yourself. He's been great in training and in games and alongside Jamie Peacock and Kevin Sinfield, they are our three key players.
I don't think it has been acknowledged how good he has been playing this season.
