Ellis' replacement
The Leeds Rhinos have today announced that they have signed New Zealander, Greg Eastwood, who was coached by Brian McClennan at international level, for three years.
Greg Eastwood seems a good signing for Leeds: He played in all but one game for the Brisbane Broncos this season, scoring fifteen tries in his career.
Greg Eastwood will be joining the Rhinos after taking part in the Rugby League World Cup in Australia, and Leeds head coach Brian McClennan has been following Greg’s progress for a few years now, and after giving him his New Zealand debut, he is looking forward to bringing the twenty one year old to the Headingley Carnegie.
Gareth Ellis’ replacement was highly rated by the Broncos’ fans, especially for his versatility. He has been known to play on the wing, centre, stand off and of course, second row.
McClennan told leedsrugby.com, “His style will suit the Rhinos, he is a quiet and humble lad who will fit in well with our players,”
“He is very skilful and I am excited about what he will bring to the Rhinos. People are going to enjoy watching Greg Eastwood over the next couple of years and I am hopeful that this initial three year contract will just be the start of a long career here at Headingley Carnegie for Greg.”
“I am really excited about joining Leeds Rhinos and coming to England. I am looking forward to linking up again with Brian McClennan after he gave me my debut for the Kiwis. We watch the games from Super League on TV here and the Rhinos play a really good style of rugby which I think will suit my own game.” said Eastwood.
It looks like this has been a great capture for Leeds, and another good signing by Gary Hetherington. Greg is renowned for being a humble guy, and even if he’s not quite a Gareth Ellis yet, he is only twenty one, and at an early stage of his career.
