Young Glaws reach semis in Middlesex Sevens

Jack Adams
By Cherry Picker August 18 2008
A very young Gloucester squad did the club proud in the Middlesex Sevens, reaching the semi-final with wins over Bath and Worcester before going out to the Army, who lost to Harlequins in the final. The one blot on the day was a report from the Twickenham crowd that a Glaws player allegedly told a young fan to “go away” when he asked for an autograph.
Glaws beat a much more experienced Bath side 24-5 in the first round thanks to two tries from Guy Thompson and one each from Dave Lewis and Dan Norton.
The second-round saw Glaws beat Wuss 31-14, five different players scoring tries – Tristan Roberts, Jack Adams, Andres Pretorious, Mark Foster and Dan Norton.
Team manager Rob Burgess told the Citizen: “We were really happy with how the guys performed – particularly the leadership shown by Jack Adams and Mark Foster, our two senior men.
"But the way the young guys stepped up and acquitted themselves was encouraging. We beat two good sides in Bath and Worcester and losing to the Army was no shame."
Harlequins won the tournament with another side featuring a host of internationals, including the tournament's top try scorer Dave Strettle, who bagged one in the final 22-12 win over the Army.
Allegations against an un-named Glaws player that he was rude to a young fan are on our message board.

Does anyone know anything about Guy Thompson and Jonny May? I have asked friends of mine and they have not heard of them either.

Both were new intakes into the academy in June. Guy Thompson is an openside flanker from UWIC University, and Jonny May is a centre from Hartpury College.
