Artemis (A): Where did you go on holiday in the summer?

Chris Malone (CM): Nowhere, first child.

A: Congratulations

CM: Thank you.

A: Is Nick Easter going to make the starting XV for the World Cup?

CM: Yes

A: Who do you think is going to win the World cup?

CM: Australia

A: How has the return to training been?

CM: It’s been great, for me it’s a great, new experience.

A: Who has been the toughest player you have played against?

CM: Either Richard Hill or Tim Horan

A: Do you have any bizarre routines or rituals you do before a game for good luck?

CM: No. I used to wear red undies for every game, but I don’t anymore.

A: What are you personal goals, or ambitions for this forthcoming season?

CM: I want to make a significant contribution, Dean and the coaches have got me here for a reason and I want to repay there faith.

A: If you had one superpower what would it be?

CM: Trouble?

A: Have you seen the erm…

CM: Heroes? Nah, but I’ve got them all on my Sky+, erm….one super power….i guess it would have to be invisibility.

A: Who were your rugby heroes when you were growing up?

CM: Tim Horan I always looked up to, I always thought he was a terrific player , probably, for me, Australia’s greatest player I’ve ever seen.

A: Have you settled into your new surroundings? New home? Training ground?

CM: Yeah, I’ve really thoroughly enjoyed it, I’ve been here a couple of months now, we’re starting to settle into the area. It’s a brand new job for my wife, being a mother, so once she settles in and meets a few of the girls from the club it will be even better.

A: Who has made you feel most at home, within the squad?

CM: Ermm, really putting me on the spot, hmmm, there have been lots, I can’t really pick out one.

A: Quins, in the past, used to be famous for there flashy, running style of rugby. What are you going to bring to make them a little more interesting to watch, because last year we saw a lot of ten man rugby!

CM: We obviously want to play an exciting brand of rugby, the supporters want to see that, yes there are days, like the Bath game here, where exciting rugby isn’t going to happen, but we just have to be smart in the way that we play. At then end of the day we just need to be successful, but we have a great squad and if we can keep everyone fit we should be able to play some great rugby.

A: We have quite a lot of exciting young backs within the squad, who has impressed you in training or maybe someone who you played against last year against us?

CM: I’ve been impressed by a lot of people, I was impressed by Seb Jewell, he played well last weekend, he’s come along really well. And I’ve been impressed by guys who have been here a long time like Ugo Monye and Simon Keogh. There is some great, exciting talent like Danny Care and Mike Brown, with the two old South African boys in the centre, we should have a very exciting season.

A: Have you worked with Andy Friend before? And even if you haven’t, do you think that with him being an Aussie, you might have a similar kind of view as to how the game should be played. Did that have any impact on you coming here?

CM: Yeah definitely! I’ve known Friendy for quite a long time, he was a skills coach with the New South Wales Waratahs years ago when I was only 19. And I toured with them. So that was when I first came across him. That was the only real coaching I had had, plus a bit of age group stuff with NSW. Not over a whole campaign or season , but I’ve known him a long time. I’d like to think that with him and John Kingston we’ve got some great coaches.
