The Dog Days
The phrase Dog Days or "the dog days of summer", refers to the hottest, most sultry days of summer. They are a phenomenon of the northern hemisphere that usually falls between early July and early September. Dog Days also definea time period or event that is very hot or stagnant, or marked by dull lack ofprogress.
Although we don’t have the hot weather (yet),and the squad is hard at work training, the site certainly seems to besuffering from a “dull lack of progress”. The early finish to the ND1 season, followed by a struggle to sign the touted Matfield, Vickerman Lund et al, has left the posters suffering from a sort of ennui, not assuaged by the “end of season poll” or Flinstone’s mammoth task in raising the sponsorship for thisy ear’s academy player.
A run through the Sportnetwork stats for yesterday and this month is revealing.
COYSDC is ahead of Wasps and bath at No 1 inthe Rugby Sites, (No 3 overall in the SN network behind Leeds and Ferrari. Top story perused yesterday was Newshound, closely followed by The Squad 2008-9 (obviously looking to see if I have updated it yet! No I haven’t). Month to date the End of season Poll has over 500 hits, but part 3 has only 127! Clearly we need to rethink this for next season! The thing that surprised me most was that as many people visited the chatroom as read the collected tales from the members’ bar!!
We have some things to discuss; the balance of the squad, Jim’s ability to answer the question he wants to rather than that which was asked, some sniping around the first game with Worcester, and the oddvisit by a troll. There is nothing to get our teeth into until the new team emerges, like a butterfly from a chrysalis, in mid august. The Saint’s friendly against Clermont ASM in Vichy could be interesting, if it coincides with M.Sarkozy’s EU conference on Human rights and border controls in one of the most architecturally beautiful towns in Europe.
So, where is all this going? Well, you tell us.What do you want to see on the site during the “Dog Days”? Tell us and we’ll try. It is, after all, here for you, Rather than getting tetchy with posters who are off topic, maudlin or moaning, give us some suggestions for the site. Phil and I will try and comply, and I will even try and finish the squad pages!
